# Heading

> Heading measures where a brand appears in AI answers, which sources those answers cite, and how the brand is depicted beside its competitors.

This is the markdown version of the Heading homepage. The same page as HTML is at https://www.useheading.com/.

## What Heading is

AI assistants now answer the questions buyers used to type into a search box, and the answer names a handful of brands. Heading tracks a set of those questions every day, keeps the answer text, the brands named and the sources cited, and reports how that moves. A claim about AI visibility can be checked against the answer behind it.

Brands run it on one website. Agencies run it across a portfolio of client websites, under their own branding.

## What Heading does

1. **Understand demand.** Research the questions buyers ask, and build a portfolio of them around your category, market and competitors.
2. **Establish technical foundations.** Test whether AI agents can navigate your site and find the information your customers need.
3. **Set your objectives.** Choose the categories and answers you want to appear in, and give each piece of work a clear goal.
4. **Identify opportunities.** Ask the Heading Agent to investigate gaps in your content and citations, with the sources attached.
5. **Measure progress.** Track your questions daily across the platforms you choose, and see which brands appear and how that changes.
6. **Connect business outcomes.** Connect crawl activity, AI referrals and conversions to see what happens beyond a mention.

## What you can measure

- **Visibility.** How often AI answers name your brand for the questions you track, as a daily series rather than one spot check.
- **Citations.** The domains and pages those answers cite, including the ones that cite a rival and never you.
- **Competitors.** Who is recommended alongside you, and the questions where a rival leads.
- **Perception.** How AI depicts your brand across the dimensions your category is judged on, with sentiment.
- **Agent readiness.** Whether your website is reachable and legible to an AI agent, before you blame the content.
- **Crawl activity and referrals.** Which AI crawlers fetch which pages, and what arrives on your site afterwards.

Platforms: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overview, AI Mode, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot. Each property tracks any 3 of them, and the same choice is available on every paid plan.

## Who it is for

- **Brands** measuring one website, who need to answer what AI assistants say about them and what to do about it.
- **Agencies** covering a portfolio of clients, who need per-client plans, client access, white-label branding and reporting they can hand over.

## What Heading cannot do

- Heading cannot make an AI platform recommend a brand. The platforms decide what their answers say. Heading measures them.
- Every agent-facing interface is read only. No tool or endpoint creates, changes or deletes anything.
- Dates are UTC calendar days throughout. A requested range is clamped to the day daily tracking began for that property, so a range that opens earlier comes back shorter, and the response says why.
- Heading does not do keyword research, rank tracking or backlinks.

## Pricing

Billed per property, per month, from $50. A free property tracks up to 25 questions as a single snapshot, with no daily series. The full ladder in markdown is at https://www.useheading.com/pricing.md, and as a page at https://www.useheading.com/pricing.

## Getting access

Heading is invite only. Apply at https://www.useheading.com/apply with your details and a few short answers about your business. Applications are reviewed in batches, and an invitation arrives by email.

## Reaching Heading as an agent

- **Navigation index.** https://www.useheading.com/llms.txt routes a task to the right surface.
- **MCP server.** `https://mcp.useheading.com/mcp` over streamable HTTP. Connect by signing in with Heading, or with an API key. Call `list_properties` first for the ids this connection can read.
- **REST API.** `https://api.useheading.com/v1`. Every endpoint is GET, authorised with `Authorization: Bearer <key>`.
- Only properties on a paid plan return data through either.
